10 Positive Mental Health Practices For Better Business

This feature looks at positive mental health practices for better business. If the cost of your success is your healthy mind, then undoubtedly it’s time for you to reevaluate your actions and make a change.

This article was inspired by a friend of mine. Someone that reminded me that mental health is always a topic worth discussing.

Although this article is inspired by one, it is meant for everyone. I truly hope you gain something from it that makes your life better.

Positive Mental Health Practices For Better Business

1. Join a Community of Like-Minded Individuals

Find your tribe. We’re all unique in our individual way and that’s a beautiful thing. However, finding a group of like minded people who share your values and ambitions is priceless. It will be an ongoing boost for you as you take on the challenges of running a business.

2. Find a Morning Routine

The state you’re in plays a significant part in how you perform. If you can devise a routine that consistently puts you in a state of positivity then there really is no a better way to start your day.

There are so many routines on YouTube and blog articles for you to take inspiration from. Find one that works for you and build your own routine to get each day off to the best start.

This is my morning routine:

  • Wake up, and say thank you as my feet hit the ground
  • I stretch my arms up in the air slowly
  • Brush my teeth and gargle mouthwash
  • Face shave followed by coconut oil face rub
  • 300 ml of filtered room temp. water with vitamin C supplement
  • 7-minute Qi Gong practice
  • 2-minutes power posing
  • Push-up and sit-up Routine
  • 300 ml of filtered room temp. water with sliced lemon
  • Cold shower
  • Face moisturizer
  • Style the hair, get dressed and ready for work

Notice I don’t eat breakfast. Honestly, I never feel like eating in the morning. It just slows me down. If you do feel like it go for it. But do it consciously and not just out of habit. I find a couple of glasses of water first thing in the morning is much more valuable to me than eating something.

I do this every morning without fail. It’s my routine. It takes about 45 minutes from start to finish. When I’m done, I’m awake, hydrated, and feeling confident.

3. Invest Time in Creating Vision

A vision can be summed up in three parts:

  • Purpose
  • Values
  • Mission

When all in alignment these three components will empower your actions and get you up in the morning and keep you going. Whenever you feel like you are in a slump review your vision and get your ass back in alignment so you can start creating what you believe in.

Here is a link to my vision statement.

4. Drink Lots of Water

Never underestimate the power of staying hydrated. This has a direct effect on your irritability, tiredness, and focus.

This also stops you from snacking on crap which will also inhibit your ability to perform.

There are fantastic apps out there to help keep you on track with your water intake so you can do it systematically and stay fully hydrated all day long.

I use an app called Drink Water.

5. Move Your Body

All life is movement. The body does not like staying in one position. Make a habit of moving on a regular basis. Get up out of your chair, do some push-ups, do some squats, jog on the stop, I don’t care, just bloody move your ass on a regular basis.

I set my phone to set off an alarm every 30 minutes. This encourages to look away from the screen, stand up and take some action. Keeping the blood, oxygen and energy flowing.

6. Fresh Air

Fresh air is oxygenated air. The air in your office can become stale and stuffy. Make sure to get out and breathe in what your body needs. It’s not rocket science, but so many of us neglect the most basic needs of our bodies. The result is our body does not perform optimally.

If you want your body to perform well, give it what it needs.

7. Dress For The Occasion

We all know Mark Zuckerberg wears the same thing every day. If that works for him fantastic. However, for most of us that’s boring and does nothing for our sense of self-worth. It’s so easy to get stuck in the rut of not making an effort in relation to how we dress. Especially if you work from home.

Don’t give up on yourself. Break the pattern of not making an effort. Even if no one else is going to see you that day, it doesn’t matter. You still need to look at yourself in the mirror and when you look back, its best to see an attractive version of yourself.

Dressing in a way that matters for you, will help put you in the right mindset. It will also give you a boost of energy and enhance your self-image.

8. Read

Every time you read a book, you’re standing on the shoulders of experience. Often credible experience. That experience has come from much trial and error.

Each time you read a book, you are benefiting from that experience. You are getting a perspective you would not have otherwise had got. You are gaining insight.

Most important you are receiving new information. New information can be rejuvenating, empowering and transformative.

9. State You Intentions For The Day

In any given day, there are countless things that may need to be done. However usually there is only one, maybe two or three things that if done, will feel like they matter.

These things are important. These are the things that if you do them, you will have a sense of accomplishment. Everything else keeps you busy but does not make you feel fulfilled.

With a pen and paper, target up to three things that you want to accomplish in the day that you genuinely feel matter to you.

Make it part of your morning routine.

10. An Attitude of Gratitude

Take a moment to think of 5 things you’re grateful for that you already have in your life, then take another moment to think of 5 things you’re grateful for, like you already have them in your life. With each one, ask yourself why you are grateful for it.

It’s the why that will empower the gratitude with emotion.

As stated in the previous article – 10 Ways Mental Health Effects Your Business – Perhaps one of the greatest support structures for your mental health is joining a like-minded community. A community that can share your journey with you.
